Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society
Answers to 1965 Constitution Test

Atlanta Metropolitan’s very own Beta Beta Tau Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society (PTK) is doing well on and off the campus. For those of you new to our college, PTK membership is based on students’ earning a cumulative minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale, exit or exemption from Learning Support Requirements, having taken 15 college level semester hours at AMC, and recommendation for membership by a full-time AMC faculty member. One of the benefits of membership are the scholarships to senior colleges available for both national and international students. In fact, one of our PTK international students, Sladjana Hertek, received two scholarships totaling $18,000 to Oglethorpe University.

PTK members also have the opportunity to be involved on and off campus. Members have shown up during registration and at basketball games, may be seen tutoring, collecting canned goods and toys for Toys For Tots, and helping at Josea Williams Feed the Hungry events. Look for the blue and tan PTK t-shirts. It just may be one of our own.

I recently checked in with PTK 2002 President Daphine (Harris) Tilley who graduated from AMC in spring 2002 with an Associate’s Degree in Social Work. Helping others is something that drives Ms. Tilley. While at AMC, she led Beta Beta Tau Chapter in the Georgia Regional Service Project, collecting soda tabs, which were then donated to the Ronald McDonald Foundation with the tabs turned into money to help purchase cancer treatments for those who could not afford them.

She continued her education at Georgia State University and graduated Magna Cum Laude this past May with a Bachelor’s in Social Work, while parenting four children and enjoying marriage with her sweetheart. She currently works at Henry County DFCS as a Social Services Case Manager (Advanced), has bought a house in Locust Grove, and says "I love this job!!!! And I am very, very happy!"

She credits her achievements to the wonderful instruction from AMC faculty, and to the support of the college and her family. We wish her continued happiness and success.
